Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In America - October 2013

With the monthly list of America's 20 best-selling cars, GoodCarBadCar is rarely full of surprises. The America's most popular car in October 2013. The five top sellers were Toyotas, Hondas, and Nissan's Altima. How rarely that is not the case.
Toyota Camry was

Camry sales slid in October but are up slightly through ten months. The Honda Accord's decline made way for the surging Honda Civic to claim second spot. Nissan Altima volume also fell, and the Toyota Corolla pushed in front of the Altima by 1852 units. The Altima ranks fourth among cars year-to-date.

America's two best-selling compacts, the Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus, both posted significant year-over-year declines. But Ford's Fusion countered with 21,740 sales, a 71% increase, and the Chevrolet Malibu was up 63.5%. No cars in the top 20 reported better YOY improvements, although the Hyundai Sonata's 18.5% jump was out of sync with recent history. Sonata volume is down 10% this year.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling cars can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. GoodCarBadCar has already published the list of America's best-selling trucks and best-selling SUVs in October.

The + icon has been removed from year-over-year improvements. Look instead for red font to designate year-over-year declines. We've also added prior year data, which means you'll spend less time hunting around GCBC looking for relatively recent historical data.

Gear review: Sony Dev-5: A$1999, www.sony.com.au

Sony’s DEV-5 digital recording binoculars are a birdwatcher’s dream come true, offering the latest in video technology and optics combined with quiet performance. The binoculars have separate G lens optics for each eye and Sony’s back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensors, which means the DEV-5 is capable of delivering sharp detail in both 2D and 3D. In 2D the binoculars offer 20-times zoom (about 5.4x in 3D).
Resolution begins to drop off towards the extreme end of that range and 2D digital zoom kicks in from about the 10x mark. At that kind of distance, focus and image stability tend to become problematic, so that’s where Sony’s Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation comes in handy. It compensates for vibrations and tiny movements. Electronic autofocus and simple manual dials to fine-tune the image make it easy to keep it looking tip-top.

The DEV-5 can record 7MP still images as well as video in 2D and 3D to an SD card or memory stick at 1080p resolution. These recordings can be paired with GPS location data. The DEV-5 is a little bulky, but that is a small price to pay for the chance to record nature in vivid 3D.

About Steiner
Karl Steiner established Steiner Optik GmbH in 1947, turning it from a one-man factory to a 50-plus employee company within six years. Offering products ranging from small cameras to binoculars and special lenses, Steiner soon turned his attention to professional high-quality binoculars. From the beginning Steiner Optiks has focused on creating new optics technologies, including such innovations as rubber armoring, the first binocular with an integrated compass, the first binocular with an optical coating to protect against harmful UV radiation, the pocket-size binocular, and the Predator lens coating to increase animal contrast against wooded backgrounds. Today, Steiner manufactures binoculars for the military, marine, hunting, outdoor, birding, and leisure industries.

EyeClops Night Vision 2.0 Infrared Stealth Binoculars

Find out what goes on after the lights go out with the Eyeclops Night Vision 2.0 Infrared Stealth Binoculars ($59.99). Featuring real infrared night vision technology, these binoculars allow you to see up to 50 feet in total darkness. Kids eight years and older will love switching the binoculars to spy mode for covert operations, or using the long-range mode for peripheral surveillance. With a high contrast dual-eye LCD display and an adjustable focus, the Eyeclops binoculars provide a clear window to a never-before-seen world.
Designed for covert operations, the binoculars feature action detailing and black coloration that lets kids operate under the radar. The dual display provides clear images that can be seen with both eyes, and the form-fitting eyepiece with eye-width adjustment ensures a comfortable fit. A black neck strap makes sure that the binoculars won’t fall or get lost in the middle of the night.
The Eyeclops features four different modes for different types of operations. Stealth Mode makes you utterly invisible by removing the light that is emitted by the binoculars. Long-range mode helps you focus on people or objects that are as far as 50 feet away. Both Spy mode and Military mode alter your field of vision to simulate the effect of using real infrared binoculars. (Five “AA” batteries not included).

Czech Army Infra-red Night Vision : Binocular PNV 57 H : You can find a lot of the Russian tanker E’s on the web, but you won’t find this unit anywhere! Beautifully made, with clear and sharp optics, these Czech units appear to be brand-new. Made in the early 1970’s, each unit has the date, serial number and the CSA logo engraved on it. (We even have nr. 0001/1971). These units were used by footsloggers. Unlike the Russian units, these don’t have the cloth helmet, they seem to have been hand-held. The headlight is center-mounted on the binoculars, with cables running down to the battery pack and amplifier. This astonishing unit lights up 150 yards, yet no one can see you. The power required is a 4Vdc/4.5Ah battery. Magnification 1x; field of vision 35ยบ; range of vision 100mm; resolution 35; diopter focusing ±5. These had been used until as late as the year of 2000, according to the maintenance logs. The light bulb is 20 watts. The entire unit comes in a heavy metal case, with many spares including bulb and IR filter. Additionally the goggles themselves are in a beautiful leather case. Batteries (for example: Werker WKA4-4.5F2) are readily available alarm and emergency lighting units. Hit the switch, the amp starts humming, the light goes on, and you’ll be dazzled by what you see! Tried it out at my apartment in Germany and felt like a voyeur… The binox weigh 2.2 lbs; battery case w/amplifier (without batt.) 3.6 lbs. Weight in metal case: 22.5 lbs measuring 16.5” x 10” x 7.5” Battery not included!.

Five Megapixel Binoculars Camera Bino Cam

We first saw this type of binocular/camera technology from Bushnell, but until now we haven’t seen a set of binoculars that have a 5 megapixel photo quality.

The Pro Viewer BinoCam has 8x mechanical zoom and can take photos and AVI video and show them on a 1.5 inch LCD screen as well as download them to your PC via a USB 1.1 interface. The camera has auto exposure and saves the pictures and video to an external SD card (no internal memory). Photos can be taken at two resolution settings, high at 1600 x 1200 or Low at 640 x 480.

The camera-binocular combo runs on 4 AAA batteries, weighs 1.3 pounds and measures about 6 inches long. The BinoCam retails for around $250 USD. Check out the cheesy infomercial describing the binocular camera:
